The most popular sanders are orbital sanders and belt sanders. More specialist sanders include pipe belt sanders, sanding rollers & burnishers for finishing work. Palm, detail & multi sanders are for smaller more detailed work.

  • Palm sanders are orbital sanders that use quarter sandpaper sheets for single handed light sanding of wood, walls, paint etc. They are often used by decorators.
  • Some orbital sanders use third or half sandpaper sheets and are especially popular with decorators. Other orbital sanders use round sandpaper sheets for the sanding of wood, walls, paint etc and are used by cabinet makers as well as in the automotive industry. Some of the smaller round pad orbital sanders can also be used single handed for more detailed work. The are sometimes referred to as random orbit sanders.
  • Belt sanders use continuous sanding belts for heavier duty sanding of wood, flooring, paint etc.
  • Sanding rollers use flap sanding wheels which are partiuclarly useful for the sanding of pipework.
  • Detail sanders are for smaller more detailed work which are used single handed. Some detail sanders can also be used to polish as well as buff wood & metal as well as sand louvred windows & doors. They are often used by decorators, cabinet makers & other woodworking trades.
  • Multi sanders are for smaller more detailed work which are used single handed. Accessories are available to enable multi sanders to also polish as well as buff wood & metal. They are often used by decorators, cabinet makers & other woodworking trades.
  • Pipe belt sanders are also known as tube belt sanders. The belt rotates around 3 points (one drive roller & 2 guide rollers) which prevent the belt from slipping. They can be used to get into confined spaces & acute angles.
  • Burnishers use flap sanding wheels and are useful for finishing metal work.
