5' angle grinders accept grinding discs up to 125mm in size. These 5' medium-sized angle grinders are in the middle of the angle grinder range. They have the ability to make bigger cuts than smaller grinders and have the ability to tackle denser materials. However, they will often be larger in size and also offer less precision than smaller grinders. Whilst they can be used on types stone and metals, those who work on more heavy-duty varieties would be better suited to a larger-sized angle grinder.
- Disc diameter is the key choice to make when selecting an angle grinder. They range in disc diameter size from 4' (100mm) - 9' (230mm) with the 4.1/2' (115mm) & 9' (230mm) grinders being the most popular choices. Smaller grinders rotate the discs at a higher speed. These tools all have a 5' disc diameter.
- Choosing your power source: The first choice is between a mains (110v or 240v) or a cordless tool. 240v tools are used with normal mains power whilst 110v tools are used on construction sites for safety reasons.
- With regards to cordless (battery powered) tools there are a variety of chemical types; Li-ion is the latest technology, prior to that it was Ni-MH and Ni-Cad was the original. The higher the Ah (Ampere hours) the longer the interval between charges; the fewer times you recharge a battery the longer it will last. Some cordless tools can also come without batteries - sometimes referred to as naked, bare units or body only. These tools are supplied without a battery or charger and more often than not without any accessories; as a result they are significantly cheaper in price.
