For comparison, the Makita DJV180Z is another excellent jigsaw model in the Makita range. It features a powerful motor, variable speed control, and similar cutting capacities, making it a reliable choice for various cutting applications. The DJV180Z, like the DJV182RTJ, offers tool-less blade changes and ergonomic design, but it comes at a lower price point.
An introduction to jigsaws: Depending on the blade used, jigsaws are used in large number of applications to vertically cut various materials including wood, metal, plastics, foam, rubber etc. Professional orbital action jigsaws, also known as pendulum action jigsaws, are ideal for long straight cuts in wood. To choose between jigsaws: The key differences between jigaws is whether to select the top handle or body grip and whether you need a jigsaw specifically designed for metalworking. The top handle jigsaw is the more common and, as the name suggests, have a handle on top of the body. Click here to see all our jigsaws
To make sure you've got the right jigsaw - top handle: Choosing the right battery: Cordless (or battery powered) tools have various chemical battery types; Li-ion is the latest technology, prior to that it was Ni-MH and Ni-Cad was the original. The higher the Ah (Ampere hours) the longer the interval between charges; the fewer times you recharge a battery the longer it will last. Some cordless tools can also come without batteries - also referred to as naked, bare units or body only. These tools are supplied without a battery or charger and more often than not without any accessoires. As a result they are significantly cheaper in price.
The other key consideration is the depth of cut into the material required. Most jigsaws have a variable speed function. Click here to see all our jigsaw - top handle
