The online power tool trade counter:

M class dust extractors (short for medium class) can be used to remove dust and particles from MDF, concrete containing quartz, cement, plaster grouting, sand and pebbles. They can also do the job of a L class dust extractor. However, M class dust extractors provide a better filtration system than L class dust extractors, which means that less dust and particles get circulated back into the air.

M class dust extractors are frequently connected directly to power tools through a nozzle. In these instances, dust and particles will be collected near the cutting mechanism of the power tool, through the power tool and nozzle and into the dust extraction unit. These dust extractors are used in the general building trade, particularly by carpenters.

M class dust extractors are also the minimum standard of dust extractor allowed on building sites by Health & Safety Regulations. They are designed to tackle dust particles with maximum allowable concentrations (MAC) > 0.1 mg/m3. They should not be used to tackle high hazard dust particles.
