An introduction to diamond core drills: Diamond core drills are often used by plumbers & heating engineers to drill through concrete & brickwork. Diamond core drills are mains powered due to heavy nature of the work these tools can undertake. Click here to see all our drills

To choose between diamond core drills: The key consideration when selecting between diamond core drills is the maximum drilling diameter required. Additionally, if you want to use the drill for applications other than just diamond core drilling, you will need one with a keyed chuck. An attachment is used to enable diamond core drilling. Due to the 13mm keyed chuck, these tools can also drill metal, plastic & wood providing the drill bit has a 13mm or smaller diameter shank to fit the chuck. The drill bit is tightened into the chuck using a key supplied. Click here to see all our diamond core drills

To make sure you've got the right diamond core drill - 13mm keyed chuck: There is often a choice between single or 2 speed gears. Most diamond core drills have a variable speed function. Click here to see all our diamond core drill - 13mm keyed chuck

Good value, compared to other well known brands. For corded tools I generally only buy Makita, - they are robust and are able to withstand professional use. Others break.

had one of these for years and when the clutch finally gave up I thought id treat myself to another. had a look at some others and the next level up is another £200 so stuck with what I knew. the drill came next day after ordering it at 430 the previous afternoon and I wished I got it months ago instead of struggling with my old one. this one ate through the wall with a 117 mm core for a boiler flue. ive used Dewalt and sparky and they aren't as good, ive used Hilti but they are expensive and you have to have the Hilti drill bits as well. I did look at the marquist but the one I saw was being discontinued so went with the Makita. other than these makes there doesn't seem to be a lot of choice for a core drill at this price point.

What can I say. It drilled a 125mm hole through plaster, thermalite block and brick with no problems at all. Only time will tell if it’ll last

What a drill! Effortlessly cores a 4 inch hole through a 500mm deep solid brick wall. Should of bought this sooner for sure Would recommend it to anyone who cannot justify the cost of a Hilti. Miles better than the dewalt core drill

My previous 8406 lasted a decade in regular use coring for boiler flues. Had no hesitation replacing with the same when the time came, excellent bit of kit.

Looks to be a capable drill but too soon to tell. Makita is usually very good so should be fine.

Been using Makita Diamond drills for over 16 years. I fit forty plus boilers a year and get around two years use out of each drill. Tried Dewalt and got eight 125mm holes drilled before packing up! Tried Sparky and got just over a years use before gear box fell apart. Will keep buying Makita one in the van and one on standby in the garage!
