Slide compound mitre saws are similar to mitre saws in that they make cross & angle (mitre) cuts in wood but additionally, by tilting the head, they can make bevel cuts. By combining the mitre cut & bevel cut you get a compound cut, useful for framing a roof. Slide refers to the rails on which the saw runs when it is pulled through the wood at a bevelled angle. Torn would be good description of how I feel about this product. It is awesome, has the rails at the front for better clearance in tight spaces, the quality of the build is great. I paid £189 and the competition are charging £400+ for these features. The only reason I had to return the saw was the slide bearings were rough and notchy which didn't make for a smooth slide. I was very disappointed because the rest of the saw was amazing. Howe Tools explained they had a few reports about this, else I would have ordered a replacement. I ended up with an Evolution, which is inferior in quality, and by the time you purchase the dust bag you are only £30 less than the Hikoki. Since this issue I have found similar reviews online about the slide bearings dating back to 2011, so Hikoki need to sort their quality control out or loose some market share.

Excellent saw, cutting true and square straight from the box and the dust bag actually catches most of the saw dust.

Decent enough little saw for the money, especially for the £159 I paid for it. Definitely has its limitations regarding power for cutting thicker stock but generally good enough. The biggest gripe is the stopper for cutting odd angles that don't have a preset. It really is a very poor system that should be better even on a cheap saw such as this. Overall not a bad saw

Price is excellent and for a good quality brand. Rails are ok, not as smooth as other brands such as De-Walt, but this does not significantly affect function, and blade needs and upgrade for smooth cuts. But would recommend for the DIY’er like me.

Fantastic tool for the money, sliding action is smooth, no play on the rails, square and plumb straight out of the box, very sturdy build, comes with depth stop to allow for trench cuts, something you usually only find on higher price models. Extension rails are part of the main body of the saw and not flimsy tubing that some other budget saws have, overall I would recommend this to anyone

There's very little information on this saw online, i was torn between this and a some of the similar priced sliding mitre saws. Overall pretty happy, its a fantastic saw for the price and I not seen anything in this price range with fixed rails. Quality wise everything is rock solid, with the trigger being my only concern. I'd give it 5 stars for quality and value if i wasn't a bit suspect of the motor/trigger which is the only let down, the saw works perfectly but occasionally the blade stutters on startup. The included blade is decent but throw on a freud blade as with any saw and its a excellent cut. From what i can find this is also a brand new model coming our late 2019/early 2020. Good Points - Fix rails are very handy (can be placed against a wall) - Standard size blades and bore 216mm / 30mm - Reasonable blade included (40 tooth 2.6mm kerf) - Dust collection surprisingly effective with just the included dust bag - reasonably square out of the box but not perfect - clamp fits the base rather than the fence, this seems a great addition though dont find myself using the clamp much. a lot of competitors using the clamp moves the fence, this is part of the solid base. - clear common angles and detentes - great extending base with built in stops both sides. - it does have a depth stop (no mention of this on the specification) - good 3 year warranty with no need to register, just keep the invoice. - laser is pretty accurate and easy to adjust, i dont rely on it too much Negatives - no -2 degree offset on bevel that can be easily set (a similar metabo offering had a fliping steel plate) this i very trivial and not something i would expect to use much anyway but could get annoying if its something your looking for. - minor but i prefer a inset blade guard. - trigger not the best, at first i thought it was the motor (may still be) but the trigger switch is a bit temperamental the intial kickback can result in the motor stuttering if you dont have a firm grip. Changes id like to see Given the price and category this falls in I dont expect much more but here are a few recomendations for Hikoki - Better trigger, it works but as mentioned I'm a bit suspect of its quality - LED light - Laser in front blade housing rather than behind blade - Alternatively ditch the laser and use 2 LED's and a shadow line. - Integrate power cable with saw housing.

Decent quality for the price. Can’t go wrong for under £200. Fence & laser needed aligning with set square before use. Now cuts very clean and accurate
